LISTEN Community Services

For over 50 years, LISTEN has provided services and support to meet the critical needs of Upper Valley individuals and families. After primarily relying on revenue from LISTEN’s thrift stores to fund critical assistance for heating, housing, and food, the executive director approached Jill Marshall Consulting in 2019 to build and implement an annual fund development plan and staffing structure for the organization.

Auditing and Elevating Development Materials

Fundraising, Donor Strategy, Data Assessment, Board Development, Content Creation

I assessed several years of LISTEN’s donor engagement strategy and resulting gifts, as well as the organization’s staff and board capacity, and other internal key elements needed to support a growing development effort. A series of recommendations, an annual plan, and additional training was provided for the staff and board on basic elements of the donor cycle and giving vehicles.  For several years, I drafted, designed, and implemented multiple development materials for the agency, including major donor and annual fund appeals, program-specific appeals, grant applications and reports, electronic newsletters, social media, and other marketing materials.

Major Donor Strategy | Data Assessment | Grants Prospecting

  • Produce video on summer camp to attract major donors

  • Manage and initial analysis wealth screen of donors database

  • Train development director in wealth screen tool and results (DonorSearch)

  • Research and draft profiles for ~key 20 major donors

I researched regional and national grantmaking prospects to support NESA’s continued growth. NESA was provided with a list of ranked grantmakers most likely to support NESA’s mission, including operating and restricted opportunities. In addition, I analyzed the giving of their current and lapsed donors, and advised future strategy to strengthen these relationships.
